Saul Kaminer
Born in Mexico the 8 july 1952. Betwen 1970-75 studied Architect at the UNAM. Obtained a degree in Architecture with a thesis about the urban creation of prehispanics cities Teotihuacan, Tula y Tenochtitlán. From 1976 he establishd residency in Paris, France where he remainded for the next twenty two years, but kept strong ties with México. He pursued doctórate in urban studies at the Institute d’Urbanisme de Paris. Currently he divides his time between France and Mexico.
In Paris, in 1982 he was one of the founding members of the group MAGIA-IMAGEN which later integrated with eight latinoamerican artist, the group was disolved in 1992. The group had strong ties with the artist Roberto Matta. From 1973 he has had more than 40 idividual shows. The first exhibition was at Oaxaca in the fundación cultural Miguel Cabrera in 1973; Estela Shapiro Gallery in 1979,81,83,85,89,93, México DF.; Gallery Thomas R. During 2004 he had two simulteneous exhibitions in Paris: “L’ombre d’un oiseau”, in the Gallery Thessa Herold, and “Oeuvres Rares”, En the Claude Lemand Gallery; In 2005, he realized his exhibition “El cuerpo terrestre y su proyección celeste” On the University of the Claustro de Sor Juana. In 2006 “Forjar la luz”, Gallery Quetzalli Oaxaca; Source of Shadow and Light in the Historic Museum ofBrownsville., Texas;and in the MACT (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Tamaulipas), Matamoros, México. Also he presents the exhibition “Le Bestiaire du Facteur in the Musée de la Poste in Paris.
He has shown at the ARCO fair in Madrid, Spain, FIAC Art Fair in Paris, under the sponsorship of the Gallery Thessa Herold. Participated in the exhibition “Dialogo de Bancas” at the Paseo de la Reforma. In 2007 he had an exhibition entitled “El Fuego que Viene del Agua”at the Gallery Thessa Herold. From 1978 to 2006, he had participated in more then 130 collectives exhibitions in galleries and museums in Mexico and others countries: France, USA., Perú, Nicaragua, Italy, Spain, England, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Dominican Republic, Suise, Puerto Rico and Cuba. In 2003 created a mural for the Sheraton Hotel in the Historic center, Mexico DF. In 2006 his sculpture “Estructura Sefiròtica” was installed in the “Espacio de Meditación”, created by the studio Pascal Architects. Some of his most recents participations in 2007 were the inauguration of is individual exhibition “El fuego que viene del agua” at the Gallery Thessa Herold in Paris. He was special guest at the Bienal of Cheongju, Corea. He is also invited at the Centro Cultural Indianilla to create a book of etchings and lithographs. In 2008 he was invited to participate in the exhibition “La tradición de las rupturas” in the Modern art museum of Mexico city. Realized the exhibition “Constelaciones y misterios” at the Museum Francisco Cossio of San Luis Potosí and in the MUFI (Filatelical Museum) in Oaxaca “El gran misterio del cartero”.
He participated in a project of monumental sculpture for the sculptural Garden in Xilao, Guanajuato, that is currently waiting for to be built. During his long artistic career he had received many important awards among them are The Mentión of Honor at the Salón Nacional de Artes Plásticas, Mexico 1982; Scholarship of the “ Conseil Regional de L’Ile de France” 1983; Special Mention from the “Salón de Vitry”, France, 1987; Fortabat award, Maison de L’Amerique Latine (third Edition); and the award Pinturerías (el arte del arte taurino), Fundación Artención.
